Henry Cavill snubbed by DC, will not be playing Superman in future films

It looks like James Gunn and David Safran are cleaning house over in DC with sweeping changes. Good news first, Patty Jenkins is no longer attached to direct Wonder Woman 3 because she essentially couldn't take notes from the producers and let her ego get in the way of production. Films that actively mocked and went against the fanbase such as Batgirl and Supergirl were outright cancelled, signalling a new ethos courtesy of David Zaslav. This has caused a bit of a woke meltdown but since they aren’t the paying customer, it’s all just noise at this point. The one piece of bad news is that Henry Cavill will not be returning to his iconic role as Clark Kent/Superman.

No more Man of Steel as Henry Cavill calls it quite on Superman

The news comes after DC head honcho James Gunn revealed that he will be writing a new Superman film. He did not say much but Henry Cavill did confirm on an Instagram post that he is done with playing the Man of Steel. In a Hollywood Reporter interview, Gunn said that he is penning a new Superman movie that will focus on Clark Kent’s younger years, working for the Daily Planet. Obviously, casting Cavill as a younger Kent is not possible so we are going to see a new Superman on screen. Gunn also stated that his Superman film will not be an origin story.

Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.

It’s an interesting time for DC as the previous regime of Walter Hamada and Anne Sarnoff was hellbent on destroying its characters with identity politics, shoving agendas and The Message down the audience’s throats with horrible choices like getting known racist and political grifter Ta-nehisi Coates to write a Superman film. It was clear that the strategy was not working and that is why Warner had to clean house and start off on a new slate without the baggage of the Snyderverse and all that came with it bogging it down. The company was bleeding money and it finally looks like they are trying to steer the ship the right way.
