Mobile gaming will improve after 2024, thanks to NVIDIA GPUs in MediaTek chip smartphones

Smartphone gaming is set to get a huge boost! Industry sources are reporting that MediaTek chips will have an NVIDIA GPU into smartphone chipsets as early as 2024. That means better frame rates on BGMI and eFootball, among others!

According to the sources, MediaTek and NVIDIA will work together to produce WOA (Windows on Arm) platform solutions for notebook applications, in addition to co-developing mobile phone platforms to improve the AI and gaming capabilities of MediaTek's application processors.

NVIDIA's fourth quarter, which concluded in January 2023, saw a 21% yearly sales reduction; nonetheless, the US-based GPU manufacturer has continued to receive significant purchases regarding its A100/H100 chips from customers all over, as well as for the weakened A800/H800 GPUs via Chinese clients.

MediaTek and NVIDIA partnership

The third quarter will see TSMC entirely using its 7/5nm production capacity thanks to follow-up foundry orders it has received for the A100/H100 and A800/H800 chips, according to sources in Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain. NVIDIA has also reserved CoWoS packaging capacity at TSMC in the meanwhile.

Besides trying to boost their smartphone gaming roadmap with NVIDIA GPUs inside, the sources also noted that MediaTek presently concentrates on the novice Chromebook market having a 20% share, and pointed out that the WOA platform devices would also increase MediaTek's foothold in the midrange to premium notebook sectors. An industry prediction predicts that 20 million Chromebooks will be shipped globally in 2023, the same amount as in the year prior.

With increased GPU order flow caused by peak season in the gaming business, NVIDIA will also probably witness quarterly performance improvements in the subsequent half of the year.

The sources also said that by working together to build WOA platform products that are supported by GPU and AI technology from NVIDIA, the two businesses would be better able to compete in the notebook market.
