WhatsApp Desktop Beta now comes with a screen lock feature

Earlier this week, reports by WABetaInfo stated that Whatsapp was working on a new desktop launch feature to enhance security. This feature has now been rolled out to Beta users to test its efficacy. The idea is that users can leave their desktops unattended after setting a password on the Whatsapp Desktop application to restrict access to chats. This feature will be particularly beneficial for people who share their desktops with others. It is expected to roll out to all users in a few days.

How to use the WhatsApp Desktop Screen Lock feature?

The WhatsApp Desktop Screen Lock has been designed as an optional feature, which means that users must enable it manually if they desire the same. Users need to simply navigate to the settings menu and set a password that helps them lock the screen. This feature will work on Mac and Windows desktops.

If you enable this feature, you have to log in with a password every time you try to access Whatsapp Web. The password will be stored locally on your device. If you happen to forget your password, you can use the QR code functionality on the Whatsapp App to log into the system once again. Then, you must set a new password.

As of now, the feature only supports password protection, though WABetainto states that the company is currently working on integrating biometric protection into the same. This means that users with a Mac will be able to access their Whatsapp via the Touch ID feature too.

WhatsApp Screen Locking Feature For Smartphones

WhatsApp rolled out its screen-locking feature for smartphones back in 2019, and the same is available for Android and iOS. Users can set a password or use their fingerprints to access their top-secret chats.
