Top 8 Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 features that you should know about

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has debuted for flagship smartphones coming in the months to follow. It is based on a 4nm process and improves the CPU, GPU, AI processing, and other areas. We will go through all those upgrades and features here and also give you a list of smartphone manufacturers that have teased their Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones so far.

Best Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC features

1. There’s of course the improvement in the core design of the chipset. Although it is still based on a 4nm manufacturing like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, it now involves 1x prime core (Cortex X3) @3.2GHz, 4x performance cores @2.8GHz, and 3x efficiency cores @2.0GHz. This is said to offer 35% improved CPU performance while ensuring 40% efficiency.

2. The accompanying Adreno GPU now claims up to a 25% gain in performance whilst giving up to 45% improved power efficiency.

3. A significant performance driver would be AI as the Hexagon DSP boasts up to 4.35x faster speeds. Some of the use cases highlighted include multi-language translation and real-time semantic segmentation. The latter means the camera can identify different things in an image and do prompt tuning. So, the viewfinder is likely to reflect what the processed end result would look like.

4. The memory has been upgraded to LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

5. Connectivity-wise, there is now support for WiFi 7 Multi Link, Bluetooth 5.3, and dual active 5G SIMs (thanks to the Snapdragon X70 modem).

Qualcomm

6. The sound department finally gets support for native “dynamic spatial audio” which will use head tracking to give the user the sensation of sound coming from different directions. You will be able to stream losslessly at 48kHz too.

7. Moving from sound to visuals, you can shoot up to QHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm has also enabled AV1 decoding natively.

8. As for shooting videos, you are getting support for 8K. But be it on-device or external display playback, the resolution is capped at 4K. Qualcomm also mentions the chip will support new image sensors from Samsung (including 200MP ISOCELL HP3) and Sony.
