Motorola could be developing a flagship phone dubbed Nio with 105Hz refresh rate

Motorola could be working on a flagship phone with the model number XT2125 codenamed “Nio” that allegedly has a 105Hz refresh rate display. The key specifications of the phone have also been leaked online but it is not yet confirmed as to when we will see the phone make its debut. Being a flagship phone, the “Nio” is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor however, it is the refresh rate of the display that has intrigued many people.

According to a report by XDA developers and Technik News, Motorola is testing a smartphone dubbed Nio with a 105Hz refresh rate display. While it is common for smartphone displays to have higher refresh rate now, generally the rate at which the screen refreshes elements is in the multiples of 24 or 30 which is why we see phones with a refresh rate of 90Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz.

However, we have also seen phones such as the Asus ROG Phone 3 featuring a test mode that takes the refresh rate up to 160Hz. So it is currently unclear whether Motorola will actually end up introducing 105Hz refresh rate display with its upcoming smartphone or will restrict it to 90Hz. Some key specifications of the phone have also leaked giving us an overview of what to expect from this Motorola flagship.

The Motorola Nio is rumoured to feature a 6.7-inch display with a Full HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) resolution along with dual selfie cameras on the top. The screen may or may note support 105Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with an octa-core CPU and is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage option. It is expected to run on Android 11 out-of-the-box with Moto customizations. 

The phone reportedly has a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 64MP camera that uses the OmniVision OV64B image sensor, a secondary 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP primary front-facing camera along with an 8MP secondary selfie camera.

One of the highlighting features about this phone is the new “Audio zoom” feature that adjusts the audio focus when recording a video as and when the user zooms in or out of the frame. The phone is also expected to pack in a 5,000mAh battery that will likely support some kind of fast charging system.

While there is no official word from Motorola about the smartphone in question, we expect the company to make things official in the coming weeks.
