Top iOS 16 Features: Improved Lock Screen, Notification System, And A Lot More

Apple announced the iOS 16 at WWDC 2022 and currently the developer preview of the iPhone software is available. However, for a more stable release, you will have to wait for the iOS 16 Public Beta which will come out in July. This new iOS version is supported by iPhone 8 and above models. It brings a host of new things, some very apparent while others not so much. Here, we will be going through the top iOS 16 features that we think will be appreciated by most iPhone users.

Best iOS 16 Features

iOS 16

1. Lock screen widgets and customization: iOS 16 lets you personalize your iPhone lock screen with new widgets (for music, live activities like sports scores, weather alerts, cab navigation routes, etc.) and the ability to edit the font, colors, wallpaper, and overall look of the first screen you view upon turning your screen on.  You can also have multiple themed lock screens for your different moods.

2. Passkeys and passwordless login: You can use Passkeys on iOS 16 to safely log in to apps and websites with Touch ID or Face ID and use the same across Apple and Non-Apple devices to sign in each time. A password-less future as the FIDO alliance envisions.

3. Overhauled Notifications: iOS 16 brings a better organized (stacked, hidden, and expanded list view modes) and better-integrated notifications system with Focus Modes on iPhones. The notifications now appear from the bottom of the lock screen.

4. Message: iMessages on iOS 16 allows editing typos, recalling recently sent messages, recovering deleted messages, SharePlaying, etc.

iOS 16

5. The other important iOS 16 features comprise Remind Later/Schedule/Follow Up/ Undo send on Mail app, iCloud Shared Photos Library with family and friends with equal edit rights, Shared Tab Groups on Safari, Live Text for videos, remove image backgrounds, Apple Pay Later with a four-month over six weeks installment option, revamped Home app with Matter support, Medication tracker on Health app, fitness tracking on Fitness app even for those without Apple Watch, greater Parental Controls, an option to report domestic violence through Safety Check feature, and the option to view WiFi passwords, among other things. We shall be digging in to identify more hidden iOS 16 features and perhaps even create a follow-up post to this.
