Netflix Ad-Supported Subscription Plan Will Be Powered By Microsoft

Back in April 2022, Netflix revealed it is losing scores of subscribers and as desperate times call for desperate measures, the company said it will be launching an ad-tier subscription plan. Now months later, the streaming platform has announced Microsoft as its Technology and sales partner. Let’s see what both tech giants have to say about their newly born partnership.

Netflix And Microsoft Partnership For The Netflix Ad Plan

Netflix

Netflix has posted in its newsroom that the lower-priced ad-supported subscription plan would be “in addition to our existing ads-free basic, standard and premium plans”. Just the other month, co-chief executive Ted Sarandos said to the press, “We're not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We're adding an ad tier for folks who say 'Hey, I want a lower price and I'll watch ads'”.

On why it chose Microsoft as its partner or what would Microsoft do for Netflix, the latter’s response is that “Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we work together to build a new ad-supported offering. More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members”.

Microsoft

Meanwhile, the Microsoft blog shines a light on what this partnership means for the Redmond-based company. It notes that “Marketers looking to Microsoft for their advertising needs will have access to the Netflix audience and premium connected TV inventory”.

Besides this, we don’t have much new information on the Netflix Ad-supported plan still. But, this new update suggests it won’t take too long. We’ll see.
