BSNL extends work from home broadband plan availability till May 19

BSNL has announced that it is extending its work from home broadband plan availability till May 19, 2020. The information comes from BSNL’s Tamil Nadu Twitter account. The tweet highlights the features of the plan which gives new and existing customers 5GB data per day at 10Mbps after which the speed drops to 1Mbps. The plan first came into effect when the lockdown began in India and people started working from home. For most, working from home means more data consumption and this plan from BSNL helped those that needed a decent internet connection to get work done. The lockdown in India has been extended till May 3 with the possibility of it getting extended even further.

If you are one that needs more speed than data, then you may want to take a look at Airtel’s 1Gbps connections. Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal said that the company is ready to provide 1Gbps connections to those that need it to work from home. He goes on to say that despite the lockdown, the company will do its best to arrange for installation as soon as possible. You can read more about it here.

With the Coronavirus forcing people to stay indoors. It is hard for telecom operators to add new customers. Reports suggest that Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea have added a mere 500,000 new customers in March. To put things into perspective, in any other month, this number would have been 2.5- 3 million. You can read more about the drop in telecom subscriptions here.
