Honor 8C to launch in India today: 5 things you need to know about the worlds first smartphone with Snapdragon 632

The Honor 8C is launching in India today. The smartphone is the first in the world to be powered by the Snapdragon 632 SoC. How the SoC performs is something we will tell you in our in-depth review. The Honor 8C (read our first impressions here) was announced in China for CNY 1,099 (Rs. 11,200 approx directly converted). This is for the 4GB RAM and 32GB storage variant. The 64GB storage variant of the Honor 8C is priced at CNY 1,399 (Rs. 14,200 approx. directly converted). It will be available via Amazon.in and HiHonor online stores in India. If you are one that is interested in the features the Honor 8C brings, then here are 5 things you should know about the Honor 8C. 1. First phone in the world to be powered by the Snapdragon 632 It is always exciting when a new processor hits a device. Even if it isn’t a flagship SoC, it is interesting to see how changes, improvements and optimisations are made to ensure the new SoC performs better than its predecessor and the competition available in the market. We haven’t seen the Snapdragon 632 in any other smartphone and it will be exciting to see how the SoC operates. The Snapdragon 632 is built on the Snapdragon 625 and Snapdragon 626 platforms. The chipset has the Qualcomm Kryo 250 CPU, and Qualcomm claims that the chip boasts of up to 40% performance improvement over its predecessor. According to Qualcomm, “It’s designed to support advanced photography and enhanced gaming while taking advantage of power efficiencies and fast LTE speeds to deliver upgraded user experiences”. 2. AI enabled dual camera Honor has boasted of AI capabilities in their smartphone camera for some time now and it looks like those capabilities will make their way to the Honor 8C. How the Honor 8C’s camera compares to other offerings in the same price range is something we will tell you when we review the device. However, Honor claims that the dual rear camera can recognise and optimize over 500 scenes in 22 categories.   3. Large battery pack It’s always good to have enough juice on the go and the Honor 8C houses a massive 4000mAh battery. Now, on paper it looks to be more than other phones that max out at 3500mAh or 3700mAh but how the software has been optimised to exploit the capacity of the battery is something we’d like to see. 4. Jio Benefits What good is a smartphone launch in India if it doesn’t brings with it some carrier benefits? On the Amazon Product page for the Honor 8C, it is listed that buyers can get benefits worth Rs 4,450 + 100GB Jio 4G data. You can read details of the Jio offers here. 5. HD+ display Probably the only downside to the smartphone on paper at least is that it doesn’t house a full HD display. The 6.26-inch display has a resolution of 720x1520 pixels. The display has a 19:9 aspect ratio and yes, the display houses a notch. However, if you are one that doesn’t like the notch, then you can go into the settings of the smartphone and hide it making the top look like a slightly thick bezel. Hono8 8C specifications The Honor 8C is a dual-SIM smartphone. It runs on Android 8.1 out of the box with the EMUI 8.2 overlaying it. As mentioned above, the device has a 6.26-inch HD+ (720x1520 pixels) TFT IPS LCD panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage. You can expand the storage via a microSD card. When it comes to the optics, the smartphone has a 13MP+2MP AI enabled camera. The 13MP sensor is the primary sensor whereas the 2MP camera works as a depth sensor. On the front, the smartphone has an 8MP selfoe camera. The entire package is powered by a 4000mAh battery. The smartphone was announced in three colour options - Midnight Black, Aurora Blue, Platinum Gold.  You can watch the live stream of the Honor 8C launch event below
