Lava confirmed to launch new smartphones on January 7 in India

Lava has officially revealed that it is planning to launch new smartphones on January 7 in India. Lava recently launched the BeU entry-level smartphone in India with features like dual cameras and is powered by Android 10 Go Edition. The company is expected to make a comeback in the budget and mid-range smartphone market in India soon with multiple smartphones.

Lava has posted a teaser on its official social media handles announcing that it will be launching new smartphones on January 7, 2021. The image has a caption that reads, “The day when the Smartphone industry will never be the same again”. The company has been rumoured to be working on four to five smartphones for making a comeback in the sub Rs 15,000 segment of the Indian smartphone market.

According to the latest leak by 91Mobiles, Lava could introduce as many as four new phones priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 on January 7. Micromax recently made its comeback in the Indian smartphone market with the In Note 1 and In 1b to take on the bestselling phones in the respective segments from companies like Xiaomi, Realme and more. This falls in line with earlier reports that said Lava Mobiles would announce four new phones in January, however, the exact specifications of these upcoming phones are currently not known.

Lava also hosted a Design in India Challenge in July, earlier this year where students and design professionals were tasked with making a prototype of a phone under the Make in India initiative of the government. We could likely see a “Designed in India” smartphone released by Lava at the upcoming launch in January.

Lava BeU was recently launched as the entry-level smartphone in India featuring a 6.08-inch HD+ display with 2.5D curved glass along with a u-shaped notch cutout for the 8MP selfie camera up front. The phone has a plastic build that measures 9.82 millimetres in thickness and weighs 175.8 grams.

It is powered by the Unisoc octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage and runs on Android 10 Go Edition out-of-the-box. The Lava BeU has a dual-camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 13MP camera with an f/1.85 aperture along with a 2MP secondary camera and LED flash. The phone supports dual SIM and is powered by the 4,060mAh battery that the company claims can provide a talk time of about 16 hours. The BeU is priced at Rs 6,888 for the sole model and will also be available in offline stores soon.
