Xiaomi India rolls out new PatchWall 30 updates for Mi Smart TVs

Xiaomi stirred up the budget smart TV market with the launch of the Mi TV. One of the unique offerings of the Mi TV was the PatchWall UI which brings with it a simple and easy to use UI. Xiaomi’s MI TVs also offer users a stock Android TV experience for those that desire it, but the unique offering is the PatchWall UI which Xiaomi updates with new features on a regular basis. The company has announced a new update to PatchWall 3.0 for all Mi Smart TVs in India. 

The PatchWall interface brings together more than 23+ content partners, both Indian and global, with content available in 16+ languages. The new PatchWall update brings 3 new features including an immersive carousel, User Centre and Live TV. 

Commenting on the new features, Eshwar Nilakantan, Category head for TV at Mi India, mentioned, “Mi TVs are growing in popularity and preference across all geographies in India and continue to be the best-selling smart TVs in the market. Over the last 2 years, we have worked towards providing the best of hardware and software to our users and introduced features that truly amplify their content and user experience. Mi TV PatchWall was the first to introduce a Live TV section with Live News and now are happy to extend that to linear channels. By bringing features such as Immersive Carousel, User Centre, Live TV among others, we are looking at offering a more personalised and immersive carousel experience to our Mi Fans and consumers. ”

PatchWall 3.0 New Features User Centre

The new update brings a dedicated User Centre that acts as a personal hub for users. With the plethora of streaming content options available, the User Centre creates a unique personalised space. User Centre acts as a hub for a number of unique features such as ‘My Watchlist’ that lets you watch all your favourite content across apps and discover it via the User Centre page. My Watchlist also allows you to continue playing your last watched content and easy navigation to your wish list or your subscribed OTT platforms. The personal hub also showcases content that is trending, upcoming, and the one that is currently available on PatchWall so you never miss out on your favourite shows or movies.

Immersive Carousel

The PatchWall 3.0 new update brings an immersive carousel that makes the title posters more beautiful and impactful. Also, users can browse through a list of recommendations of similar content in tune with the current content they are watching on the carousel. 

Live TV

Mi TV PatchWall was the first to introduce a Live TV section with Live News and now have extended the feature to linear channels as well. The catalogue of new live TV service providers includes live content from Hungama, ABP, Republic TV, EpicOn, Hoichoi and SunNXT. The regional experience is amped up under the SunNXT umbrella with Gemini, Surya, Udaya, Sun and KTV offering premier movies and shows in four Southern languages.

The Live content has been categorized under seven sections on the Live Channels namely Live News, Free to Watch, Live Music, Watch in HD, Comedy Anytime, and Explore More.

2020 iPhone could support time-of-flight 3D sensors: Report

While the 2019 iPhones are yet to be launched, the rumour mill is already churning out predictions for the 2020 iPhones. According to some reports, Apple is expected to release three new iPhones this year. As for 2020, the tech giant could supposedly incorporate time-of-flight (ToF) sensors in the future iPhones. Additionally, Apple might also include 5G connectivity in next year’s iPhone models. Previously, a report speculated that Apple might introduce VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) ToF sensors on the rear of the 2020 iPhone models. The setup is similar to the TrueDepth camera setup found on the current iPhone models, but on the front. Ming Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst, has also predicted that Apple might bring ToF sensors to its 2020 iPhone lineup. In the latest research note shared by 9to5Mac, Kuo claims that at least two of the 2020 iPhone models could feature a ToF sensor on the rear. Furthermore, Kuo added that Apple might introduce three iPhone models next ye
