WhatsApp is planning to roll out multi-device support. The news has been doing the rounds for quite some time now, and according to a new report, the feature could be called ‘Linked Devices’, where users can add a linked device by using unique codes generated by the app.
The report comes courtesy the alert folks at WABetaInfo, who in a recent tweet claimed that multiple device support will require the user to enter their mobile number and a code they will receive as an SMS. This additonal code needs to be entered in the new device that you may want to link to your account.
WhatsApp multi-device support is enabled in latest Android betaIt’s essentially the same process that one goes through when logging in to WhatsApp on a new device. However, instead of WhatsApp not working on the older device, now both devices will be able to send and receive messages simultaneously.
The latest WhatsApp beta for Android devices have the new Linked Devices feature, and once it passes the beta test, a wider launch will be imminent. It’s probably one of the most anticipated feature of the popular messaging app, and one that has been a long time coming.
The beta app has support for 4 devices at present and WABetaInfo states WhatsApp is working to create a UI to manage linked devices. The Linked Devices feature allow the same WhatsApp account to run on up to 4 devices including an iPad, but then again, what’s there in beta might not make it to the final version and we can only find out what’s official after the rollout is complete.
