PlayStation 5 benchmark leak suggests its 4x more powerful than PS4, at par with NVIDIA RTX 2070 GPU

New information about the PlayStation 5 has surfaced and this time, it is in the form of a benchmark leak. The information was leaked by TUM_APISAK on Twitter. Since this is a leak, we suggest you take it with a hint of salt. TUM_APISAK tweets, “The score is hidden. I only see the overall score. PS4 - Rough score 5000. Gonzalo - score 20000 up”. Gonzalo is the codename for the next generation PlayStation. To be clear, the 4x graphical jump is when compared to the PS4 and not the PS4 Pro. The score of 20000 plus puts the PS5’s capabilities around the capabilities of the RTX 2070 from NVIDIA. The benchmark in question here appears to be the 3DMark Fire Strike. Although the leakster has said that the details of the benchmark were not visible, only the final score.

We are nearly a year away from the launch of the PS5 and the next Xbox. Microsoft took the stage at E3 2019 and shed very little light on the upcoming console. Sony, skipped E3 2019 for the first time in the history of E3. However, the company has already confirmed some specs of the PS5 including the AMD Zen2 and Navi GPU, SSD and Ray Tracing capabilities. The specs revealed of the PS5 are similar to what Microsoft announced with the Xbox Scarlett at E3 2019. You can check out our comparison off the known specs of the two consoles here.

With the architecture of the two consoles being homogenous to each other, Sony and Microsoft will have to play the “exclusive” game to grab attention. Sony has had a stellar line off exclusive games with the PS4, something Microsoft lacked this generation. Microsoft has acquired a considerable number of studios over the past year to help build a portfolio of exclusive games.

The next generation of consoles is expected to launch in the holiday season 2020.
